site modifications

hi all-
well- in an effort to fix the widget, I wound up deleting other things as well, so I guess that means it's time for a site re-design anyways...

This past weekend went well, by the way. I enjoyed sharing in worship with Davie St. Perhaps tomorrow I will post the sermon...

Anyways- got to get to visiting folks now, so this will all have to wait.

Sundays are great

Hi all-
I got the chance to share in worship with Trinity Ave. Presbyterian Church and preach at the 9:00 and 11:00 services- a lot of fun and a little warm... Especially since yesterday my mom and I went to Cokesbury because they were having a sale and we wound up getting me a robe for the pulpit. Anyways- I wore it this morning to "try it out" so to speak, and despite the extra heat it generates, I guess it's kind of cool.

Baseball and Baby

This past weekend I finally caught up with my good friend Margot and her family including one year old Connor (pixs below) and also with my good friend Susie, as she, my mom and I went to watch the Bulls play. I am once again on-call and am finding this as good as time as any to update the blog apparently.

Anyways, before I include the latest photos- I would like to invite those in the triangle area to come and worship with me as I begin my self-proclaimed 3 city preaching circuit--- this Sunday, July 20th I will be preaching at Trinity Ave. Presbyterian in Durham, the following Sunday I will be at the newly elected vice-moderator's church (Davie St. Pres in Raleigh) and then on Aug 3rd I will be preaching at my home church (1st Pres Garner)...
So, if you can, come on out and worship!

Another update while on-call

Hi all-

so, I am hanging out at the hospital tonight and thought I would update the ole blog. Hope that's ok. Anyways,... since I last posted, I have been down to Wilmington to spend some time with one of my buddies from college, Tom, and his family, as well as other Seahawk alumni as we celebrated the 4th. Laura, Tom's daughter- is a pretty cute little girl, walking around and being a pretty happy 10 month old...

ok... so it's a few hours later... sorry about that. Happy (now belated) birthday Jamie!!

anyways, back to updating... Anyways- down in Wilmington we also went out and played disc golf Sat morning and several games (of the card variety) that I had never heard of before- all in all a pretty laid back Saturday. Headed back to the triangle that night. Decided to get up early on Sunday and drive out to Durham to go to the early church service because I was desiring to partake in the Eucharist, and they have weekly communion at early church. Well, apparently, there was a storm that had come through and messed with the power supply at the church and knocked out the airconditioning there. The pastor, trying to be accomodating and aware of only rising temperatures, decided to shorten the service so people wouldn't have to sit uncomfortable through worship. I can appreciate that (theoretically), however, one of the parts of worship that was cut out was the celebration of the Lord's Supper.

Yep- the Sacrament. Cut. As if it there wasn't much to it. As if it were something dismissal. I can only imagine what Stan Hall would have to say about it, (one of those times I wished he was still alive)... Now, I am not writing this to dis on my friend, the pastor, I realize that decisions are made and that is how life goes sometimes. But it has gotten me to think about in general, how dismissal we treat things that once were so sacred (or overcontrolled by the church) that people only were given the bread on the day of the resurrection... The Eucharist has been celebrated as early as there is documentation from the earliest of churches... of all the things that I think that we, as a church in general, do too little of, is Sacramental theology, because, in my world view, everything is connected to Jesus, his life and ministry, and those simple elements of water, bread, and cup, they are real signs, real connections- to the life and death we have been invited to be a part of. and that is something powerful.

the day, this Sunday, turned out all right, after the 15 minute worship service I wound up having a nice long breakfast with a couple of friends and that was good.

The rest of my on-call was ok too. Do it again next week and i think this weekend I will finally get to catch up with Goat and her family which is pretty exciting.

Another week....

Here it is already July and life is pretty much the same here. Although, I did get to Durham on Thursday last week and got to spend some time with the Drakes which always makes me happy and I did go sailing on Saturday at Lake Townsend. Those were nice change of pace sort of things. Other than that, I have finished reading (for the first time) the Polity section of the Book of Order, and I still don't know the difference between a federated church and a union church- anyone? I started on the discipline section last night since I had already read the Directory for Worship once.
I am also heading to the coast on Friday for the fourth to see Tom and his family and various Wilmington friends, so that should be fun. There are many things I love about this state, and the ocean being so close, is one of them.
On a sad note, my beloved Hurricanes traded away one of the fan favorites yesterday to the Oilers. Erik Cole, #26, will be there while we got some young defensive guy, who, hopefully will help our weak blue line. It sounds like a good trade, but I always hate seeing one of the long term guys leave the team. In the paper this morning, Erik said NC was home and that most likely he and his family will return here when hockey is done, which is nice to know. A lot of professional athletes like to do that. Something about the golf, beach, and being halfway between NY and FL, not to mention the weather, usually attracts them.
(However, Brett Hedican and his family are still moving away- to CA- so, who knows if that will really happen...)
Anyways- got to fo visit folks here at the hospital, so I will write again later.
