That about sums it up for me.
The rain, while I appreciate it keeping the temps slightly cooler, is getting to be annoying. It has caused flooding in parts of Austin and central Texas that is no good. And it doesn't appear to be letting up for a few days yet.
I had my midterm today in Greek. I think I did fairly well. I am glad there are only two weeks left in the class. I am looking forward to Triennium as a way to put it (greek) behind me...
Other than that, not much else to report, I am thinking of heading back east in August.
Oh, and I broke down and joined Facebook. It's pretty cool- here's a link...

Kickin It Old School Style
So last night we had an amazing kickball game, which for the purposes of heightened drama, I am going to tell the story backwards...
All right, the game was all tied up, and therefore forced into an extra inning. The team we played, Austin's Finest (debatable if you ask me), were the visitors, so they kicked first. We managed to hold them to one run in that half-inning.
So here we were, one run down, no more innings left. The first person on my team kicks, an amazing kick, deep into left field, and somehow the ball was caught. One out.
Next up- another kicker, this time he makes it to first base. We are pumped.
Then another person comes to bat... er kick, and she wiffs it and is tagged out before reaching first. Two outs...
Trey is up next. He manages to some how wobble the ball just left of the first base line and dodge getting out- pretty freakin hilarious actually, and now we have the tying run and go-ahead on base.
And guess whose up next- yep, yours truly feeling the weight of the kickball world on my shoulders.
First pitch- goes wide and I take the "ball."
Second pitch- I kick it wide of the base line, foul ball, one strike.
That's right, bottom of the proverbial 9th, 2 outs, a ball and a strike, with two men on base.
Talk about added pressure.
So,... I try for a zen moment- I forget about all that, and just say to myself- just kick the damn ball, and let the rest be up to the rest of the world.
And I KICK it... Up, up it goes in the air, heading torwards an empty pocket in mid outfield, and it drops perfectly. They field the ball poorly and I advance to second and Scott scores the tying run and I am just glad I didn't mess up the game- and then I wait- David kicks the ball. Trey comes home and we win the game- DL and I continue to run the bases just because we want to come home- it was an amazing finish.
Now, it should be stated that we had a fifteen run lead going into the last two innings and there was a comedy of errors that I am sure would have looked funny enough to watch on one of those blooper shows where everything that could go wrong for us- did. I was simotaneously laughing my ass off and throwing a fit on the sidelines (I was sitting out that inning) watching our beautiful- it's in the bag- lead quickly disapear. DL (our team captain) threw down his clipboard, his cap, and was acting like a coach on the sidelines of a basketball game- our friends who were there just observing were in hysterics over the dibacle that was. There was a lot more action that went on, afterall, the final score was 21-20 when it was all said and done- but that's the main story of it all....
Oh what a night- good times for sure... Plus- we went to Chuy's before hand for some very good eats, so I have now been to another "Austin institution."
That's all for me, I just had to share.
Take care-

Half way done with Greek!!!
ahh Fridays- they are so nice... especially when one realizes that there are only three more weeks left in summer school!
Not much to report really- I went and saw Ocean's 13 last night- it was pretty good- better than 12 I think. I have got my second kickball game of the season tonight, I hope we play better than we did last week and that the ref will actually call the game accurately this time.
Other than that, life is pretty much the same.
I am preaching here in Austin at Genesis Presbyterian if any of you nearby want to come out and worship with us that would be great.
Have a good weekend and I will update again soon.
Take care- C

Rockdale Pres.
Hi all-
Anyways- I took a few pictures of the church and thought I would share them with you. Next week I am preaching at Genesis Presbyterian here in Austin, and I am looking forward to that as well.
I led my first worship service here in Texas this morning in a little town called Rockdale, TX at First Pres there. I did this through Occasional Pulpit Supply which is something our school has set up with several churches throughout Texas, we get some experience and a little money and the churches get worship leaders. It was very cool. There were 22 people in attendance this morning, and there were a handful of people there who had actually lived in NC. So that was kind of neat too. A lot of the town is populated by people who work or worked for ALCOA, which also had a plant in Belton, NC- which is why there is a connection there. There is even a family who spends summer months in NC and winter months in TX, so they weren't there, but there last names were Drakes, so I found that quite amusing (since some of my favorite people also share the last name Drake)...

Fawns and an Armadillo
Hi all-
So yesterday Melissa, Ruby and I decided to go camping at Inks Lake. It was a good trip- turkey dogs over the campfire, hiking on some rocks, paddleboating on the lake and playing cards under a star filled sky. It was complete with sightings of deer (including two babies) and our first alive and well Armadillo... not to mention a water snake, a scorpion, ducks, turtles and a plethora of insects and spiders.
Of course, I didn't get any pictures of those animals. However, here are a few from the trip that we took.

another Tri in the books...
Hi all-
so this morning I awoke at 4am to begin my day. I met Melissa downstairs at 4:45 so we could carpool to the Travis County Expo together to catch a bus over to Decker Lake for the triathlon. All of this was to get our transistion areas set up in the midst of the other 3,500 women who were also competing in the Danskin triathlon. This tri raised money for Breast Cancer Research so I was happy to participate theoretically. This morning I was dreading the actual event.
We didn't race until the 25th wave (like I said there were a lot of women) so we had a lot of time to kill in between arriving and our start. So we warmed up in the lake. The race this morning started with a half mile swim which I did in 24 minutes, not a bad start, in fact my time was litterally over 1,000 people better than the remainder of the events (the stats tell you your time rank for each event seperately and also overall). Then, I rode a 20k bike that was pretty gruelling, lots of big, long hills- that took me 1 hour and 16 minutes to do. By the time I dismounted and transitioned to the 5k run, I litterally had no energy left and I could not run for the life of me. So I walked the majority of it, and that element took me 58 minutes to complete. All in all it took me 2 hours and 48 minutes to complete the race, and I got a medal (they gave those to everyone who crosses the finish line) sore gluts and blisters on the feet to prove it. Oh and the best part [with a hint of sarcasm] is that we had to ride our bikes the mile plus back to the car with all our gear because the buses wouldn't haul our bikes... Fun stuff.
All right, I got to meet someone in 2 minutes so I am outta here.
Take care,
Carrie

one week in...
Hi all-
Just thought I would write a quick update now that I am through with the first week of Greek. Today was an optional review session class, and Melissa and I opted out and chose instead to head over the UT pool facility that could give any five star hotel resort a run for their money and we spent the majority of the day lazing arround the several pools there, I did get a practice swim in since I have another triathlon in less than 2 days...
Greek so far isn't all that bad, lots of endings to memorize, but the concept of the language is ok for me, a lot of the words seem familiar since I have some albeit over a decade + since I studied it... Latin background.
Congrats to my friends Margot and Scott on the birth of their son, Connor Ryan. I have seen some pix of the kid and he's pretty darn cute.
On a somewhat related note- I went and saw the movie "Knocked Up." Very funny and very inpolitically correct-
Well- I will write more post tri-
Hope you are all well.
Take care,
Carrie

Back to "normal" in Austin
hi all-
Made it back to Austin last night with no trouble for the most part until we started our descent into Austin, that is when we hit a pocket of turbulance that lasted for a minute or two- but then, after we landed, and just about 100 yards away from docking the plane on the ramp thing that connects it to the concourse, the plane stops and the captain comes on the speakers and says that he cannot park the plane do the lightning storm that we encountered and that it was unsafe for the necessary grounds crew to be outside to help connect the plane, etc. So, after landing (20 minutes early) we wound up just sitting on the runway for an hour and a half while the lightning storm hung over the airport- I wound up not getting back to my apartment until 11:00pm last night, after touching ground at 8:43... fun stuff really-
This morning, I returned back to the classroom that I have spent more time in than I would have thought possible (all but two of my classes have been in this room) for the start of Greek camp. (that's what the professor is calling it). And so the marathon has begun... it's not all bad though, our study group has decided to meet at the Episcipool (the neighboring seminary's swimming pool) for review sessions. which is a good of place as any to discuss Greek things...
That's all for me right now- I have many errands to run since I have been gone these last two weeks. I am really glad I got to catch up with so many of you over the break. It did my soul good. Thanks everyone...
