a quickie...

Hi all-
So, I spent most of this past week fighting a cold and I retaliated by spending a ridiculous amount of time playing "Kingdom Hearts" on my PS2- oh the joys of grad school. (I also was pet sitting for my friend Melissa, so there were lots of walks taken too- had to get out amongst the three dimensional folks)... I got my grade back from Greek and I was fairly pleased with that and I am going to be spending this upcoming week working in the advancement office part time filling in for someone- which will be a good thing for me. And next week, one of those days I think I am flying into RDU- which brings me great joy.
That's really all there is to report- hope all is well wherever you are.

back from Triennium

Hi all-
Just wanted to post a quick update to let you know that I am back from Triennium, which was mostly a positive experience.... Highlights would be the great group of people that made up the small group that I led and Friday evening's worship (and of course hanging out with friends)...

The biggest downer was having my camera stolen by someone that works for North West Airlines, which is a long story in itself.

Other than that, I am happy to be back in Austin although the weather was extremely pleasant in Indiana (if only the low humidity and cool temperatures would have followed me).

Some of you I will be seeing soon as I will be heading to NC in a couple of weeks.

Summer has begun!!!

I know that sounds weird being that we are in the middle of July- but I finally finished Greek this past Friday and now have 6 weeks off. Ergo, summer has begun. Let's see, a couple of highlights- I saw a couple of really good movies this week- Transformers and the newest Harry Potter- very entertaining movies- I highly recommend... I also went down to Schlitterbahn on Wednesday after class with a couple of my buddies and we had a blast- I rode a water coaster for the first time- good times.
Tomorrow morning I am off to Indiana for the week to be a small group leader at Triennium- I am really looking forward to it.

Final Push

Ahh... four more days until Greek camp is no more... I am only SLIGHTLY excited about that.

Let's see, what to tell you all.
I suppose I should start with this: Yesterday, Monday, July 9th, was the first day it didn't rain at all in almost 50 days. God bless it.
Yesterday was also my friend Jamie's birthday and we went and celebrated it pirate style, we called it a seminarrrrrrrrrrian suprise party... pictures to be added when I have a better internet connection...
Also- I went tubing on the Comack River down in New Brunfels Saturday, even managed to get sun-burned, it was a fun float- not too much nature (lots of houses and lots of other people about). Other than that I am trying to find cheap airfare home and trying not to scream at the workers who have started every morning for the last 5 weeks working right outside my building at 8:00 using hydrolic (noisy) lifts, loud radio and seem to be taking forever painiting and replacing siding on the two apartment buildings beside mine. (In comparison, they put a whole new roof on my building in less than two days)...

Happy Fireworks Day Everybody!

Hi all-

The Kirwans hosted a 4th of July party/cookout at their apartment and then we headed down to Zilker Park to watch the fireworks show and listen to the Austin Syphony. It was a nice time (although the actual fireworks weren't as impressive as I would have thought they would be, however they actually fired cannons as the orchestra played 1812 Overture which was very cool). As we crossed over the Colorado River (to get to the park), I got a chance to chance to see how high the river is due to all the massive quantities of rain that have dumped out on us. Thankfully, the rain stopped long enough to have quite a pleasant evening.

ROBOSAURUS sighting!!!

All right- so here's the deal- for the most part it's same old, same old in the life of Carrie Finch. However, even in the monotonus grind of Greek, there are always a few suprises. Take for instance, after a disappointing loss in kickball on Friday, I went with some friends to see "Evan Almighty" with very low expectations, and by golly, I liked the darn movie. It was much more family friendly than the prequel and I did enjoy the film. Or, how earlier that day I went to my first ever spin class and found that it is definately a work-out that kicks all sort of butt, but I really enjoyed that too, so much so that I got up at 5:15 this morning (it's Monday on top of that) and joined a couple of friends at the 6am spin class which I topped of with a half mile swim before showering and heading to class this morning.

But the most random thing, the thing that I think can perhaps only happen in Austin is that a few friends and I went to the Alamo Drafthouse to go and see Ratotouile and in the parking lot was this huge robosaurus that they had brought in to celebrate the release of Transformers, the movie. So, I took a couple of pictures of it, because I hadn't seen anything like this before, and while I know this sort of thing shows up at like Monster Truck shows- I am pretty sure it's not a typical thing to see in the parkinglot of a run down strip mall.
