Hi all-
I just wanted to let you all know that my paternal grandmother, Dorothy Finch, passed away yesterday morning. She was 89 years old and her health has been declining over the last few years. NC update #2
Hi all-
Thought I would give another quick update on my time back home. This past weekend I went on two trips, one down to Augusta, GA for my cousin's (Doug) wedding and then up to Williamsburg, VA for the 5th annual Badgers/Lobaughs/Finch amusement park adventure. Lot's of time spent in a car these past few days with a lot of activities packed in them. And these remaining few days seem to be filling up quickly with things to do and people to see as well.
Anyways- part of the Augusta trip was also about getting to see my dad and his family as well. My brother, Ruth and I drove 
down Friday and had a nice dinner with my dad and his wife to celebrate my dad's 59th birthday one day late. We then played the game "Last Word" up in their hotel room and had birthday cake. Doug's wedding was Saturday evening so we met up with my dad and Sherry during the day and took a boat tour of the canal that runs through Augusta and learned about the city's history. It was a beautiful day outside, a little on the warm side, but good none the less. The whole Finch family is also concerned with the rapidly fading helath of my grandmother, and admist the celebrating with Doug, we shared in concern for her as well. So if you can, keep her in your prayers...

So if you can, keep her in your prayers...Let's see, Ruth and I headed up to VA after switching cars and droping Kenny off back in Cary and we headed up to VA to meet up with my friends. We had a nice dinner at Friendly's followed by a mini-pool party at the hotel we were all staying at (at some point all the other guests left the pool enabling us to take over the joint). We got up yesterday morning and headed over to Busch Gardens so we (Brenda, Trevor, Benjamin, Ruth and I) could ride the new dive roller coaster there, the Griffon. It was pretty cool. It has two 90 degree drops where you are facing straight down and on the first one, when you are 205 feet up in the air it hangs you there
for five seconds so you can look down and wave to the people below (atleast that's what I did, Trevor wasn't about to let go of his shoulder harness). We then proceeded to ride the other remianing roller coasters repeatedly (14 rides in all) throughout the rest of the day, sometimes with the remaining Badgers and Lobaughs. In fact Ian rode his first roller coaster with loops yesterday, the Lochness Monster. I was quite proud of him.

it's good to be home
Hi all-
Arrived in NC yesterday and have been enjoying my time here so far. I have gotten to see so many people I had hoped to see already and I am amazed how easy it is to slip back into life in NC. One sad thing however, my friend Linda Ross-Thaxton passed away this morning after a long hard battle with cancer. I went to a piano recital that was originally being held in her honor (and was now also held in her memory) this afternoon. There is this young man, Brendan, who is a pretty amazing pianist and he played for about an hour selections from several classical composers all from memory- he did this to help raise money for an edowment that is being set up at TAPC in Linda's honor to help people out in the congregation that are faced with enourmous financial burdens that come with sickness. I am quite proud of Brendan. He's a good kid.
I will write more later this week, but just wanted to say that so far it's been a very good trip. I even got up early this morning and went running before church. (that's me trying to be hardcore).

D-O-N-E DONE!
Hey everybody-
Welcome to my 80th post (at least that's what the blogger home says).
Today I took my last final for the semester and I can now say I am (well technically the grades have to be recorded first) a "Middler" which is what the seminary calls their 2nd year students... woo hoo! So now, for the next few days it is all about having some fun- moderately of course :) I went for a bike ride this afternoon (after meeting some classmates/friends at the Crown for a celebratory beer) and I am planning on catching a movie later this evening with one of my friends (Vanessa). Tomorrow I am swimming and actually trying to straighten up the ole apartment and then I am catching up with my friend John for a late dinner and table shuffleboard at the Hole in the Wall. Thursday I am going to the Texas coast with Jamie, Melissa and Sarah to spend the day/night at the "beach" and Friday I am biking down the green belt at Barton Springs with Melissa, Derek, Mitch and Lisa Marie and we are planning on picnicing by the river (and playing in it I am sure). All of this of course leads up to the grand finale of hoping on a plane and coming home, which sounds the sweetest of all the plans right now.
My next Triathlon is in less than 4 weeks so in the midst of all this there will still be training going on, but luckily, it's all fun stuff.

Been There, Tri-ed That...
Hi all-
so I have now completed one of my goals in life- I have done a triathlon! In my best time yet! (Thats the fun part when you have never done one, it's automatically the best time yet). I am a little sore (esp. in the gluts area) and tired and I realllllly need a shower. So, I am just going to put a couple of pics up and let them do the talking for me today...
Along with me, are Melissa and Alyssa, who are also a part of the seminary community and who were also first timers, I was in a different age bracket, so I had a different colored swim cap -->
in just under 2 hours I swam 300 meters, biked over 11 miles and ran/walked 2+ miles.

Reading Week
Hi all-
I am in the midst of reading week (a week given to us to prepare for finals). So I thought I would take a couple of minutes and update you all on a few things.
1) Due to several storms, our kickball play-offs were postponed last Friday, they are this Friday, but since I have the tri on Saturday (and will head down on Friday to New Braunfels), I will not be able to play in the championship :(
2) Since our game didn't happen, Melissa and I decided to go biking/running/walking last Fri night instead, which started out all right, but on a particular downhill turn, I hit a divot in the concrete and wound up sprawling on the ground. I have several bruises, but otherwise, things are fine, I got back up on the bike, completed the course and still managed to push out a run/walk.
3) I spent a good portion of the day Saturday in the library researching stuff for my Hebrew paper. Yep, you read that right- me- in the library- working on a paper- on Saturday, a full 9 days before it is due.... gulp-
4) I did get to see the Kentucky Derby (on TV) and then a group of us went to see the movie "Hot Fuzz." It was hi-larious.
5) On Monday, Melissa and I went for an early morning swim/bike ride and on a new (to us) trail we found this really cool bend in the river with class one/two rapids and wound up playing in the river. It was a lot of fun. Another group of friends and I decided to go to Mon. night bowling (it's a dollar a game on Mons after 9) but all the lanes were full, so we wound up seeing Spider Man 3. That was a good film as well. I think I liked it better than the other ones.
6) ok, so NHL- uhm, I am picking Ottawa Senators as the remaining team that I would like to see hoist the cup this year (and I would like the Spurs to take the NBA championship).
Well, only 4 days till my first triathlon and only 7 days till I am done with my spring semester and only 11 days till I am in the beautiful state of NC. If you don't have plans, come on out to First Pres Garner on June 3rd- I will be preaching that day.

DONE!
I can officially say that I am done with the lecture portion of my second semester of seminary! All I have left is a Hebrew exegetical paper and two finals, but I have a week to prepare for them. Tonight my kickball team plays for the season championship, so that should be a fun, relaxing evening to end the semester on. With the completion of this week, that means it also brings me another week closer to my first ever triathlon, which is now in 8 days and then another week closer to NC (which I will be arriving in 15 days)! It's sort of like seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. What a long strange tunnel it has been...
